The Intersection of Art, AI, and Tech at Amsterdam Light Festival

Amsterdam Light Festival showcases a diverse array of twenty high-profile light artists, each responding to this year's theme, "Loading... Revealing Art, AI and Tech." Among them, Modern Guru stands out, strategically placed by the canal, offering an intimate exploration of the theme.

The installation features Modern Guru and the Whispering Mountains within a modern pre-cast concrete and glass viewing area, accessible both on land and water—an homage to Amsterdam's characteristic blend of urban and aquatic environments.

"Modern Guru and the Path to Artificial Happiness" merges unconventional mediums like inflatables, LEDs, and AI. Using camera tracking technology, the installation reacts to visitors raising their phones to capture a moment. The guru's mouth conceals a receipt machine, triggered by AI to produce messages with ambiguous meanings, prompting contemplation.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Modern Guru serves as a thought-provoking metaphor, raising questions about our relationship with technology and the pursuit of happiness in contemporary life. Does the act of constant documentation through technology enhance or diminish our experiences? Is technology a facilitator of joy or a potential detractor from genuine contentment? Additionally, the installation prompts consideration of whether art has taken on a new role as a modern form of spirituality.

For those intrigued by the convergence of art, AI, and technology, "Modern Guru and the Path to Artificial Happiness" is a notable inclusion in the Amsterdam Light Festival, running until January 21, 2024. The exhibition encourages visitors to reflect on these themes against the backdrop of the city's iconic canals.
